The difference between tapered roller bearings and thrust self-aligning roller bearings

Introduction.

Although both types of bearings roll with rollers, there are still differences.

1、 Tapered roller bearings belong to separate type bearings, and both the inner and outer rings of the bearings have tapered raceways. This type of bearing is divided into different structural types based on the number of rows of installed rollers, such as single row, double row, and four row tapered roller bearings. Single row tapered roller bearings can withstand radial loads and axial loads in a single direction. When the bearing bears the radial load, an axial component force will be generated, and another bearing that can bear the axial force in the opposite direction is needed to balance it.The ability of a single row tapered roller bearing to withstand axial load depends on the contact angle, that is, the angle of the outer ring raceway. The larger the angle, the greater the axial load capacity. The most used tapered roller bearings are single row tapered roller bearings. In the front wheel hub of the car, a small-sized double-row tapered roller bearing is used. Four-row tapered roller bearings are used in heavy machinery such as large cold and hot rolling mills.

2、 Thrust self-aligning roller bearings are used to withstand axial and radial combined loads, but the radial load shall not exceed 55% of the axial load. Compared with other thrust roller bearings, this type of bearing has a lower friction coefficient, higher rotational speed, and has centering performance.
